EGG FREEZING
the process by which a woman’s eggs are collected, frozen and stored as a method of fertility preservation
it takes about 10 to 15 days
in which cases is egg freezing indicated:
– women who wish to delay childbearing for personal or social reasons
– women with a family history of premature ovarian failure
– women before undergoing chemotherapy or any other type of radiation that will affect their fertility
- woman has an ultrasound on 1st or 2nd day of her cycle
if the ovaries are good, then we start ovarian stimulation by taking hormones to develop as many mature eggs as possible - then we monitor the growth of the ovaries with regular ultrasounds depending on the response of each woman and monitor hormone levels through blood tests
- once the follicles are at the right size, the last injection is given, which will initiate their final maturation before egg collection
- almost 35-36 hours after this injection is administered, egg collection takes place, under sedation and ultrasound guidance
the egg collection process takes about 10-23 minutes - the oocytes are frozen in vials in a number decided by the woman herself. Their storage can last for 10 years with the possibility of renewal
- a notary declaration deed by which the woman consents to egg freezing process
- tests for infectious diseases (HIV 1-2, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, C) in the last 6 months before freezing
- cardiogram (ECG) in last 6 months
